I’m pleased to confirm that Oliver Carroll was selected by ASW members as our Parliamentary Candidate at a Special General Meeting this weekend. Oliver, a local man, is looking forward to returning to his home town, where he has strong family ties in the Constituency - and like his predecessor Sir Graham Brady attended Altrincham Grammar School - before studying law at Oxford. He has gone on to build a career at international law firm Clifford Chance where he currently works as a solicitor advocate.
His reaction to winning, was to reflect upon “the quality of the other Candidates and his delight at being selected as Sir Graham’s successor,” and “that the hard work starts now”, whilst “wishing to emphasise that he had every confidence in the Membership, Association and Party pulling together to help him run a winning campaign”.
As Association Chair I shall be organising a full range of events with Oliver to give members, supporters and constituents the opportunity to meet him – and in return give him a detailed insight into the special issues affecting our Constituency – from Green Belt protection, support to local business, campaigning to re-open Altrincham minor injury unit and to be a forceful defender of our Trafford School system.
We will drive this agenda with a schedule of campaign activity that includes canvassing, literature, surgeries, special focus seminars, meeting with potential donors – and importantly with regular updates to you – the members, who having selected Oliver must now rally behind his campaign.
Commenting on the selection, Sir Graham tells us "Oliver is very able and has a deep commitment to public service. I am delighted that the members have chosen a candidate with deep local roots and I am confident that he has what it takes to serve Altrincham and Sale West with distinction".
